NRL news 2024: Selection battles heat up as Knights unleash new recruits in Sharks clash

Jerseys are up for grabs as the Knights and Sharks face off in their first official trial for 2024.

Fresh off signing a three-year extension earlier this week, Knights coach Adam O’Brien has named several of his regular starters including Greg Marzhew and the Saifiti brothers.

He’s also given the early nod to last season’s successful halves pairing of Tyson Gamble and Jackson Hastings with new recruit Jack Cogger named on the bench.

Tom Jenkins — also a new face — will get first shot at Dom Young’s old wing spot, while exciting young fullback Fletcher Sharpe will don the No.1 jersey.

The Sharks are without first-choice halves pairing Nicho Hynes and Braydon Trindall after the pair played in Friday’s Indigenous All Stars game.

Daniel Atkinson and young gun Niwhai Puru will link up in the halves instead with fullback Kade Dykes set to play his first game since rupturing his ACL in January last year.
