LIVE NRL Trials: Crichton unleashed in new Dogs era as big guns return for Sharks

Fresh off being appointed club captain, Stephen Crichton will make his unofficial debut for the Bulldogs in their pre-season trial clash against the Sharks.

Crichton has taken over the captaincy from Reed Mahoney and Matt Burton, who shared the on-field duties while Raymond Faitala-Mariner — who has joined the Dragons — was the club captain in 2023.

Coach Cameron Ciraldo has given his biggest indication yet of what his side will look like come round 1 with Crichton named at centre and Blake Taaffe retaining the No.1 jersey after last week’s trial.

Drew Hutchison has been given the nod at halfback, Jaeman Salmon is at lock and star second-rower Viliame Kikau will play his first game of the year.

For the Sharks, Nicho Hynes will be rested due to a minor quad issue but five-eighth Braydon Trindall is back on deck after his man of the match performance in last week’s All Stars clash.

Will Kennedy, Jesse Ramien and Ronaldo Mulitalo are among the big-name players that come in for their first game of the year.
