Kane sets goals PB, eyes Lewandowski's record

Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane has set a personal best for goals in a season, taking his total to 42 goals in all competitions with a brace against Eintracht Frankfurt as he eyes Robert Lewandowski‘s infamous single-season record.

Kane netted from a cross inside the opening six minutes on Saturday, followed by a penalty around the hour mark. It took him past his previous season’s best of 41 goals — set at Tottenham in 2017-18.

The England international, who joined Bayern last summer, is now bearing down on Lewandowski’s record of 41 Bundesliga goals in a season, with Kane needing six more in Bayern’s remaining three games.

“It’s possible, but obviously I have to get a move on,” Kane said when asked if he could reach Lewandowski’s record.

“I’ve got to maybe score a few goals next week. It’s there, it’s in touching distance.”

Kane’s domestic performance comes amid a difficult season at Bayern that has seen them fail to lift the Bundesliga title for the first time in 12 years and face a humiliating German Cup third-round exit at the hands of third-tier Saarbrucken.

However, Bayern can still rescue their season with the Champions League after they beat Arsenal in the quaterfinals earlier this month, setting up a semifinal clash with Real Madrid. The first leg takes place at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday.
