AFLW great reportedly heading west in senior coaching coup

Former Melbourne captain Daisy Pearce has reportedly been appointed coach of West Coast’s AFLW side.

Pearce enjoyed a decorated career as one of the game’s earliest stars, capping off her stellar playing campaign with an AFLW premiership for the Dees.

The West Australian reports Pearce has been appointed as the Eagles’ new coach.

She has worked as a development coach for Geelong since retiring, signing a four-year deal with the Cats.

Pearce was reportedly offered the role of head coach of Essendon’s inaugural AFLW team last year but turned it down after much consideration.

In her time as a commentator, Pearce has become a highly-regarded voice of the game.

She was part of the AFL’s Women’s Coach Acceleration Program when it launched in late 2021.

The Eagles’ former coach, Michael Prior, resigned with immediate effect in October.

Prior made headlines the week before when he complained about his side having to play the reigning premiers as part of the league’s fixture.

He apologised for his comments in the aftermath, while he also apologised last year after making comments over the Eagles’ decision to not produce a pride jumper.
