Your view: Who wins, Magpies or Power?

Collingwood had a shaky start to their season and come out of their bye 2-3, while Port Adelaide have been flying, having dropped just the one game this year to Melbourne in round 3 (by seven points).

You’d think this would mean the Power would be favourites today but no, that’s the Magpies, who are just favoured to win the match.

We do know the Pies are often lifted when playing in front of their home crowd, and we expect the Magpie Army to be very vocal today.

So, what’s your view? Who wins today, the Magpies or the Power?

Pies get one back but Power still in control

Josh Daicos launched the ball into a pack near the goal square, where Will Hoskin-Elliott flew above the rest to take the mark. He finished it off with a goal, and looked very, very happy about it.

It did follow a crafty Jason Horne-Francis goal, however, so the margin remains at 21-points.

While it’s a decent margin, Collingwood don’t look rattled by being put on the backfoot so early on. But they do need to up the pressure if they want to get some control back.

For Power, things are looking composed. They are putting pace on the ball and jumping at every loose ball that comes in the vicinity of them.

Marshall kicks off second quarter

Not what Collingwood fans wanted to see.

The Power’s Todd Marshall has added his name to the goalscorers list for today to kick off the second quarter.

It extends Port Adelaide’s lead to 23-points.

QT: No Charlie Dixon, no worries.

The fast-moving Power have been able to find free players everywhere in their forward line, and boy, have they made Collingwood pay.

They have dominated inside 50s, and have peppered the goals, with six individual goalkickers.

Collingwood players are getting sucked to the ball, like moths to a light, and leaving too many opponents loose.

Port Adelaide’s off-season recruiting is also paying dividends, slotting Esava Ratugolea and Brandon Zerk-Thatcher into defence to provide aerial cover for the athletic Aliir Aliir. They are making the Magpies forward line look small.

At one stage Zerk-Thatcher took Brody Mihocek, Ratugolea had Will Hoskin-Elliott, leaving Aliir Aliir to monster Jamie Elliott.

In the end, the Magpies had to swing their resting ruckman – Mason Cox or Darcy Cameron – forward for much-needed height. They were able to claw back late-quarter goals.

But worrying signs for Collingwood. If they can’t get pace on the ball going forward, they are in trouble.

Pies get an important two back on eve of QT

Bobby Hill has backed up Mason Cox’s goal with one of his own.

Hill got on his bike and streamed deep into the Pies’ attacking 50 to take a grab near the goals.

He finished it off to close the margin back to 17 points on the cusp of quarter-time.

Trouble areas for Magpies as Power get six

It’s a big yikes for the Magpies at the MCG this opening quarter.

Port Adelaide have kicked six goals to two, with everything going right for Power.

Mason Cox got a badly needed one back the Magpies and Craig McRae is going to hope it kick starts something in his side.

The Power are winning the territory battle – with 15 inside 50s to 9 – while their stars are firing. Zak Butters is already up to 10 touches, and Darcy Byrne-Jones eight, with four score involvements.

Port Adelaide lead by 30.

Bergman’s right foot gets Power’s third, Burton with the fourth

My oh my. Miles Bergman with a right foot checkside 45 metres out on the run.

Not too shabby for Power’s third goal of the day, which was swiftly backed up with their fourth by Ryan Burton. The two extend Port’s lead to 19 points.

Port Adelaide are getting some early control of this game.

While neither those goals, here’s Zak Butters with the first goal of the day, thanks to the AFL:

Collingwood are on the board

It was a hot start to Port Adelaide with the two opening goals of the game, first Zak Butters, then Sam Powell-Pepper, but Collingwood have now answered.

Bobby Hill lined up for a set shot. His kick dropped short but Will Hoskin-Elliott was there to take the grab. He slotted the ball through for the Magpies’ first major.

We’re on now with each side, after a slow start, firing.

Port Adelaide lead by 6.

Power with the opening goal

Well, that’s one player you don’t want left alone roaming around inside 50.

Zak Butters received the ball unopposed and opened Power’s account for the day with the first goal of the game.

Josh Daicos had the opportunity to answer, but his shot went through for a minor score.

Port Adelaide lead by 5.

First five go by without a goal

There’s been plenty of turnovers and not many (any) goals so far this game.

Power have registered two minor scores, the Magpies one. Each side have had four inside 50s each, with Collingwood winning (just) the clearances so far.
