South Sydney skipper Cameron Murray is facing the prospect of missing the start of the 2025 NRL season after suffering a wrist injury while in camp with the Kangaroos.
There are fears Murray could be sidelined for up to five months after sustaining a scapholunate injury that requires surgery and has ended his Pacific Championships campaign. The star forward suffered the injury in Sunday’s win over New Zealand.
“Rabbitohs captain Cameron Murray has sustained a wrist injury whilst in Australian camp which will rule him out for the remainder of the Pacific Championships,” the Rabbitohs said in a statement.
“Murray sustained a scapholunate injury. He will see a surgeon next week upon his return to Sydney. The injury may require Murray to undergo a scapholunate reconstruction, which would see him undertake an extensive period of rehabilitation.
“The Rabbitohs will provide an update once Cameron has seen a surgeon and received a final diagnosis and a plan has been established for his rehabilitation and recovery.”
The Kangaroos have booked their spot in the Pacific Championships final and will play the winner of this weekend’s clash between New Zealand and Tonga.
