Windies keeper’s ‘moment of brilliance’ overshadowed by ‘inexcusable’ dropped catch

West Indies keeper Joshua Da Silva delivered a “moment of brilliance” to dismiss the red-hot Marnus Labuschagne before it all came crashing down.

Reserve wicketkeeper turned bowler Devon Thomas was able to catch the edge of Labuschagne’s bat, allowing Da Silva to take a smart catch up to the stumps.

Fox Cricket’s commentators were left stunned by the effort after spending 110 overs in the field with both Labuschagne (163) and head passing 150.

“That is a good catch, that is not easy to take there, a thick edge,” Mark Waugh said.

“Really good work by Da Silva there to be awake and in the game, when they do come you have got to make the most of them.”

“A moment of brilliance, a moment of brilliant wasn’t it,” Isa Guha said.

“That is a heck of a wicket keeping catch, I will tell you that, massive edge and incidentally same bowler induced a mistake,” Ian Smith said.

“When you have had nothing go your way as a wicketkeeper and you have got to maintain your concentration, keep the standards up amongst the troops.

“And then you take one of those, you deserve a serious pat on the back, that is a terrific piece of work.”

All-rounder Cameron Green then entered the crease for the first time this Test series and the West Indies team’s spirits were high.

The 23-year-old West Australian stepped back and Thomas once again found the edge, before the ball dropped short of injured first slip Kyle Mayers.

What could have been a breakthrough moment for the West Indies quickly fell flat as Waugh pointed out how deep their slip corden was standing.

“He’s way behind Da Silva, he’s a metre too deep,” Waugh said.

“That’s a genuine edge, that should go to hand,” Smith said.

“If the keeper can take a catch standing up like that you certainly can take a step forward.”

“Look how deep he is, that’s ridiculous, he should be a metre up from there,” Waugh said.

“Second slip is behind Da Silva as well, Holder should be at worst level with the keeper, that is inexcusable.”
