In the lead-up to the re-match, George Kambosos Jr. disappeared off the face of the Earth with the sole purpose of producing an upset win over Devin Haney after the American’s one-sided win in June.
Midway through their bout at Rod Laver Arena, as Haney took control after a high octane start where the Australian mixed and match his style and went after the American, Kambosos’ corner delivered the 29-year-old a hard truth.
“You want to win this fight or not?” Kambosos Jr.’s corner said, to which the Australian replied: “Yes, I do”.
Then he was floored, not by Haney but by his corner.
“Well, what the f*** are you doing,” his corner fired back as Kambosos attempted to become the undisputed king of the lightweight division.

Haney continued to dominate the bout, growing in confidence as he got used to Kambosos’ style, who switched between southpaw and orthodox.
Kambosos was bruised, bloody and out on his feet, but somehow managed to survive until the end of 12 rounds.
Haney (29-0, 15KO) inflicted the second straight loss of Kambosos’ career (21-2, 10KO), winning by unanimous decision (119-109, 118-110 x 2).
In June it was Haney’s jab that proved unstoppable, but his right-hand was the difference for their second fight.
Kambosos was wobbly on a number of occasions late in the match but managed to go the distance.
