Western Bulldogs legend reportedly charged with assault over alleged election day incident

Western Bulldogs great Tony Liberatore has reportedly been charged with assaulting an election worker following an alleged incident at a pre-poll booth before the 2022 Victorian election.

The Age reports 57-year-old Liberatore, the father of current Dogs star Tom Liberatore, has been accused of unlawfully assaulting a Victorian Electoral Commission staff member at a voting centre in Essendon last November.

The incident allegedly occurred after Liberatore was denied access to the polling booth given it was closing for the day.

A female staff member was allegedly pushed against a wall during the dispute, The Age cites a source as saying.

Liberatore’s solicitor told The Age that Liberatore “will be contesting the charge.”

The Brownlow Medal winner has been charged on summons and is set to appear in Broadmeadows Magistrates’ Court in June.

Liberatore played 283 senior games for the Dogs during his decorated career.

Tom Liberatore is expected to play his 200th AFL match on Saturday when the Dogs take on Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval during Gather Round.
