‘We’re ready for him to hang them up’: Munster hilariously sledges Bellamy into retirement

Storm star Cameron Munster has hilariously sledged his legendary coach Craig Bellamy in a cheeky live TV interview – while also revealing the return date of fullback Ryan Papenhuyzen.

Speaking on Fox League on Thursday night, the jocular 28-year-old claimed Melbourne players are ‘ready’ for Bellamy to hang up his proverbial boots.

“He told me last year when I was going through my contract negotiations that he probably wasn’t going to go on,” Munster said.

“They’ve got a guy called Doc that’s doing a documentary on him, and when they’re doing a documentary it’s probably time to hang them up!

“We’re ready for him to hang them up, a lot of the boys have lost that hunger for him to be our coach, I know I have.”

But the jokester couldn’t keep up his gags as he revealed his true feelings for the veteran tactician, saying: “Nah I respect and love Bellyache so much.

“He’s still got the passion and the love for the game and I feel like he could still do so much more for our team and our young boys coming through, but it all depends on him and his lifestyle.”

Munster said: “There’s a lot of speculation when Paps is back, he ran yesterday on the field which is exciting. The last couple of weeks he’s just been running 80 per cent in the ultra-g, he’s ready to come back in the next hopefully five to six weeks.

“He hasn’t done enough running in his legs and got enough conditioning in them so I’m sure they’ll put him to the sword over the next couple of week and give him a lot of conditioning in those legs.

“It will be exciting for the game and our club for him to come back and I’m there will be a big roar once he’s back.”
