First there was the chicken dipper. Then there was the beer chug girl. Now we have a new US Open crowd hero — the water bottle boy.
The final tennis Grand Slam of the year is underway at the US Open and the spectators are once again living up to their reputation for being the rowdiest in world tennis.
A youngster has gone viral on social media for getting into the spirit of things during the first round match between Tatiana Prozorova and former World No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki.
During a break in between sets, a young boy wearing a yellow John McEnroe hoodie saw himself appear on the big screen and took his opportunity.
He immediately started skolling his bottle of Evian water, although his chugging technique left a bit to be desired and he was unable to drink the whole bottle.
Nonetheless, the youngster was seriously chuffed with himself as the crowd went berserk around him.
Fans couldn’t get enough of him as the boy’s antics set social media alight.
One fan said on Reddit: “Lots of frat parties I see on that kid’s horizon.”
A second joked: “Healthiest US Open attendant.”
Another chimed in: “He should swirl it first, so it creates a whirlpool like effect, thus reducing the bottleneck. Amateur move.”
And one person said: “Sorry kid, there’s only one Beer Chug Girl.”
That’s in reference to a woman named Megan Lucky, who went viral and became known as the “US Open beer girl” after downing multiple beers at the 2021 US Open when she spotted herself on the big screen.
The young lady was caught twice by the cameras and twice chugged the nearest beer — much to the delight of everyone else in the stands.
Remarkably, she returned a year later and wowed fans again by stealing her partner’s beer and putting it away like it was nothing, forcing the camera to zoom in on her.
Also featuring in the annals of wild US Open crowd is the famous chicken dipper, who was caught dipping chicken fingers in a cup of soft drink in 2018.
As for the match itself, Wozniacki defeated Prozorova 6-3 6-2 and will take on two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova in the second round at Flushing Meadows.
Wozniacki, the 2018 Australian Open champion, is making a comeback to professional tennis after having two children following her retirement in 2020.
Australia’s Ajla Tomljanovic and Daria Saville are into the second round, while Alex de Minaur, Chris O’Connell and Rinky Hijikata also won their first round matches.
