Eddie Jones is set to speak publicly on Tuesday morning for the first time since returning to Sydney after the Wallabies’ disastrous Rugby World Cup campaign.
The national coach is expected to be grilled at Coogee Oval over reports from this masthead last month that he is on the verge of quitting Australian rugby less than 12 months into his five-year deal. This masthead reported on September 24 that Jones had a job interview with Japan just days before the Wallabies’ final warm-up match against France.
The Wallabies lost that fixture 41-17, setting the tone for a tournament to forget which saw the Australians exit at the group stage for the first time.
Jones’ side beat Georgia first-up, before back-to-back losses to Fiji and Wales left them needing a miracle to progress, despite victory over Portugal in their final match.
