A third member of the Western Bulldogs’ coaching staff will reportedly depart the club this off-season after its underwhelming finals miss in 2023.
According to SEN’s Tom Morris, development coach Travis Varcoe will leave the club, joining assistants Marc Webb and Rohan Smith.
Varcoe has spent the last three years at Whitten Oval, predominantly working in the Dogs’ VFL program, while he also had a mentoring role with Indigenous players Jamarra Ugle-Hagan and Arthur Jones and has been involved in the club’s Reconciliation Action Plan.

It comes after Varcoe hung up the boots at the end of 2020 following 230 AFL games for Geelong and Collingwood, winning two flags with the former.
Morris reported more football department staff is expected to depart the Bulldogs as the club reworks the team under senior coach Luke Beveridge, who’s contracted until the end of 2025, having signed a two-year extension at the end of last year, and footy boss Chris Grant.
It’s however believed forward coach Matt Spangher and midfield coach Brendan Lade are likely to remain at Whitten Oval.

In other potential movement in the club’s coaching ranks, veteran journalist Caroline Wilson last month linked former Suns coach Stuart Dew with a move to the Dogs, although there’s yet to be any confirmation.
It marked the first time since 2018 Beveridge’s side has missed the finals, with Mitch Hannan’s delisting and Josh Bruce’s retirement the only changes so far to the playing list.
