Unpopular Valencia owner Peter Lim hired his son, Kiat, as the club’s president on Monday after the departure of previous chief Layhoon Chan.
Valencia fans have been protesting Lim’s management of their club for years. The millionaire businessman bought Valencia in 2014 but supporters have been angered by what they describe as absentee ownership.
In October, thousands of Valencia fans held another rally before a 3-2 loss to Las Palmas in an effort to oust the Singaporean owner.
On Monday, Kiat Lim took the reins at the club, where he has served as director since 2022 but has not been a frequent visitor to the city.
“I am delighted to pass the baton to Mr Kiat Lim, the son of our majority shareholder,” Layhoon Chan said in a statement.
“This appointment is a clear affirmation of our continued commitment to the club and its future. I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to our fans and everyone close to the club for their support during my time in this role.”
Valencia are 18th in LaLiga after a 3-3 draw to Osasuna on Sunday, level on points with 17th placed Las Palmas.
