LIVE: Nick Kyrgios is back in action on Wednesday when he faces 27th seed Karen Khachanov on Arthur Ashe Stadium (around 10.15am AEST) for a place in the semi-finals of the US Open.
Having beaten world number one Daniil Medvedev in four sets, Kyrgios will surge back into the world’s top 20 as he targets back-to-back grand slam finals after his breakout run in Wimbledon.
Kyrgios owns a 1-1 record against Russian Khachanov, who outlasted Spain’s Pablo Carreno Busta in a gruelling five-setter.
Fellow Australian Ajla Tomljanovic, having knocked out Serena Williams earlier in the tournament, also seeks a place in the semi-finals when she faces Tunisian star Ons Jabeur (from 4am AEST). Jabeur is a Wimbledon finalist, posing a massive test for the Australian as she seeks a maiden grand slam semi.
Not since 1984 has Australia had quarterfinalists in both men’s and women’s singles draws.
Elsewhere, 13th-seed Italian Matteo Berrettini faces Norway’s fifth-seed Casper Ruud (from 2am AEST) in a massive clash, with the winner to face Kyrgios or Khachanov.
