MAGUIRE SET FOR SPELL AWAY FROM MANCHESTER?

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has got his central defensive pairing locked down, with even Luke Shaw, a left back by trade, slotting in to the position with ease.

It’s left England international Harry Maguire cast aside on the bench and facing an uphill battle to force his way into the starting team.

Maguire, who has struggled for the Red Devils this season, proved why he’s still one of the best defenders in the league with several impressive displays for England at the World Cup.

If Maguire wants playing time, he may have to depart Old Trafford, if only for a brief period of time.

According to the Daily Mirror, West Ham United would be all to happy to have Maguire at the club and help steer them away from relegation as they consider a move for the skipper.

Whether the Red Devils star is up for a survival battle remains to be seen, but he certainly won’t be short of options if he wants a temporary leave.

CITY STALWART BOUND FOR BARCA?

Manchester City star Ilkay Gundogan’s contract expires at the end of the 2022/23 season and as of now, has not received an offer for an extension.

Gundogan was City boss Pep Guardiola’s first signing when he arrived at the Etihad and the German has gone on to make almost 300 appearances for the club.

Yet he might not go on to make many more should City allow him to walk and according to The Telegraph, Barcelona are prepared to bring the German to the Camp Nou.

Having been schooled in the Guardiola way of playing, Gundogan would likely have little trouble adapting to Barca manager Xavi’s style of play.

Barcelona have predominantly been looking for players who will be available to sign on a Bosman deal, with Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante another name mentioned.

NAPOLI STAR ‘KVARADONA’ EYED BY PL GIANTS

Napoli sit top of the heap in Serie A and are on course for their first league title since 1990.

Georgia international Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, affectionately referred to by Napoli fans as “Kvaradona”, has played a pivotal role in Napoli’s charge, scoring seven goals and chalking up nine assists from 15 Serie A games.

Unsurprisingly, the forward’s sensational form has not gone unnoticed across the continent.

The Daily Mail reports Manchester City are keeping tabs on the 21-year-old star, but he certainly would not come cheap.

However, Kvaratskhelia seems content in Napoli, recently stating how “motivating” it is “when the whole city cheers for you and transmits love to you in every moment,” per DAZN.

Whether Guardiola pursues a move for the Napoli ace remains to be seen, but bigger clubs will no doubt look to snap up the Georgian if he continues his blistering form in all competitions.

MOYES TO MAKE WAY?

This season has certainly not gone to plan for West Ham boss David Moyes.

After a season in which the Hammers finished 7th and made the Europa League semi finals, few would have predicted the London-based outfit would be struggling for air in the relegation zone at the halfway point.

West Ham takes on Everton, who are also seriously up against it with Frank Lampard fighting to save his job amid the backdrop of chaos and unrest from the Toffees’ loyal fanbase.

Should Everton beat West Ham, or perhaps even take a point from the clash, it appears Moyes will be given his marching orders, according to The Telegraph.

The report also claims that should Moyes be axed, the Hammers could turn to Nuno Espirito Santo, Rafa Benitez or Sean Dyche to act as a firefighter.

Even if Moyes manages to lead West Ham to a critical three points, sterner tests await as their next three fixtures consist of trips to Newcastle United and Spurs, with a home clash against Chelsea sandwiched inbetween.
