Transfer Talk: Liverpool see Adeyemi as Salah successor

The winter transfer window won’t reopen in Europe for a while yet, but there are plenty of moves in the works and gossip swirling around. Transfer Talk brings you all the latest buzz on rumours, comings, goings and, of course, done deals!

TOP STORY: Liverpool eye BVB’s Adeyemi to replace Salah

Liverpool are considering a move for Borussia Dortmund winger Karim Adeyemi, reports Sky Sports Deutschland’s Florian Plettenberg.

The Reds are reported to see the 22-year-old Germany international as a potential successor to Mohamed Salah, whose contract situation remains unresolved on Merseyside with no sign of progress over a new deal.

Multiple clubs across Europe have been linked with interest in Adeyemi, but it is believed that there are some concerns over his injury record. He has missed several games over the past three seasons, and after recently sustaining a muscle injury during the 7-1 win in the UEFA Champions League over Celtic, he is expected to be out for over a month.

Adeyemi, who was in impressive form before his injury with five goals and three assists in seven games, arrived at BVB from RB Salzburg in 2022, and he remains contracted at Westfalenstadion until the summer of 2028.

PAPER GOSSIP

Barcelona are interested in a move for Lille striker Jonathan David, reports Sport. Multiple European clubs have been keeping tabs on the 24-year-old Canada international of late, and it is reported that the LaLiga side have sent scouts to watch him on several occasions this season. David’s contract is set to expire next summer.

Bayern Munich are prepared to hand attacking midfielder Jamal Musiala a new contract that would see him among the highest earners at the club, reports Ekrem Konur. The Bundesliga club have been reported to be in negotiations with the 21-year-old recently, and it looks as though his current €96,000-per-week salary could be quadrupled, with Harry Kane and Manuel Neuer both on deals worth more than €400,000-per-week.

– Talks are set to begin between Liverpool and defender Trent Alexander-Arnold over a new deal, reports Football Insider. It is reported that the Reds are “hopeful” they can convince the 26-year-old to stay at Anfield amid growing interest from Real Madrid, who have recently been reported to be eyeing a move on a free transfer when his contract expires next summer.

Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Florian Wirtz is currently favouring a move to Bayern Munich, reports Sky Germany. The 21-year-old is said to be Bayern’s number one priority on their transfer wishlist, and they are plotting a move for him next summer. It is believed that Wirtz would prefer to go abroad rather than stay at Leverkusen if he is not granted a switch to the Allianz Arena.

– A move for Real Betis midfielder Johnny Cardoso is under consideration by AC Milan, reports Calciomercato. The Rossoneri are reported to see the 23-year-old United States international as an ideal alternative to Youssouf Fofana due to his ability to create chances, but they could face competition from Tottenham Hotspur. The Serie A club are looking at making an approach for his signature in January.
