They all are resuming and they all are capable of winning much bigger races in spring.
A trio of high class country-based sprinters lock horns in today’s feature Tamworth Rush Sprint over 1200m, and regional bragging rights go right on the line.
Resuming for only his third prep and 12th career start, exciting Armidale-based five-year-old Golden Point is out to pick up where he left off last prep, despite not publicly trialling.
The son of Bull Point took giant strides through the New Year when he won two straight up to Class 3 level before mounting an all-out assault on Highway company in the city.
And after twice charging home into a place over 1200m, he duly stepped up to 1400m and ran down subsequent Group 1 Galaxy winner Shelby Sixtysix.
It all catapulted Golden Point to a standing as one of country NSW’s best sprinters, but that reputation gets an immediate and stern first-up test in Tamworth against two rivals.
Resuming behind two progressive trials, talented local six-year-old Anethole also built an imposing record last prep highlighted by a terrific closing CL3 Highway win on Boxing Day before winning a Country C’ship Qualifier at home in early March.
Anethole then tackled the Country C’ship Final at Randwick four weeks later but had little or no luck from a wide barrier back in the field and finished a bit over seven lengths from the winner.
But he was quickly spelled before trainer Cody Morgan put him back through the trials in open class, and he looks ready for a big return, especially back on firmer footing, with three of his four career wins on Good-rated tracks.
The third player in this three-way prizefight is also returning behind two trials, and while boasting an overall superior strike rate, he hasn’t yet met similar lofty opposition.
Primal Scream, a Scone-based six-year-old son of Sepoy, won three straight in the country last prep before failing in heavy ground in the feature BM 92 Skellatar in Muswellbrook.
A pure dry track performer, Primal Scream has a near 40 per cent strike rate from just 20 starts, and while he’s not considered a first-up flyer like the other two, the preparation has been sound and he draws to get a good trail.
