‘The comeback of the year!’: Fans stunned by ‘wild’ war, even better celebrations

If you look in the Oxford Dictionary for the word ‘slobberknocker’, you’ll find a picture of Chris Barnett’s bout against Jake Collier.

The two heavyweights engaged in an all-out battle, but Collier appeared to have the upper-hand when he closed Barnett’s left eye with a series of brutal shots.

He also appeared to smash Barnett’s jaw with a high leg kick, but remarkably, Barnett held on.

The doctor assessed his eye after the first round, but gave Barnett the all-clear to come back out for the second round.

Luckily he did, because Barnett took full advantage of his second life and went to town on Collier.

Eventually he took Collier’s back and with some vicious ground and pound, Barnett brought the fight to a close.

It completed a remarkable comeback victory and Barnett did a front-flip in celebration.

His post-fight speech with Joe Rogan was next level.

“Yo, they gonna say heavyweights, we gonna be out here throwing, we gonna be out here doing it,” Barnett said.

“Let me tell you right now, me and dudes like Jake, that’s what we do. That’s why we’re in this. We’re signed to the best organisation in the world, UFC. That’s what we are, that’s what we do. We come out here for y’all, and I love it!

“Thank you for the love and everything. This means the world to me, this means the world to me! I love you for real, I love you from the bottom of my heart, from the bottom of it. Thank you.

“We’re nothing without y’all, nothing. Stand up for yourselves, stand up for yourselves!”

When pressed by Rogan what his fight strategy was, Barnett didn’t have much to say other than that he was disappointed Collier wanted to clinch rather than trade punches based on earlier interviews.

“Ok, I know fighters in their little pre-interviews, ‘we’re going to fight, we’re going to bang,’” Barnett said.

“When I felt him clinch, you’re a liar sir. But man, Jake, just a great dude, so glad I got to share the octagon with him. this is amazing.”

Barnett knew it was all over once he was able to take Collier’s back.

“That’s the thing man, I’m a turtle shell,” Barnett said.

“If I’m on your back, I’m staying there. Call me Michaelangelo, call me Leonardo, all of them.

“You go for the take-down, I’m a short guy, I had to move. I had to improve on my game. Every time I’m out here, I’m going to be better. It’s for y’all!”

Barnett then busted the dance moves in celebration as fellow UFC fighters and fans were in awe of what they’d just witnessed.
