BRONCOS
Off-contract 2025: Fletcher Baker, Selwyn Cobbo, Kobe Hetherington, Jaiyden Hunt, Corey Jensen, Israel Leota, Blake Mozer, Cory Paix, Tristan Sailor, Kotoni Staggs, Reece Walsh, Xavier Willison
Analysis: There is no shortage of superstars coming off-contract at the Broncos in 2025 with Queensland Origin stars Reece Walsh and Selwyn Cobbo leading the off-contract class. Walsh is in line for a monster contract upgrade and will have no shortage of potential suitors if the Broncos don’t meet his demands. By the time November 1 rolls around Walsh could be in line to earn the biggest contract in the game. Cobbo is on a decent deal of around $700,000 a season, but has his sights set on a future at fullback and with Walsh blocking his path, he may have to go to another club to play the position and earn fullback dollars. Incumbent Kangaroos centre Kotoni Staggs is on a deal worth $800,000 a season and may have to take a pay cut to keep all three stars at Red Hill. Staggs needs to get more involved and have his best year yet if he wants to command similar money on his next deal, but after losing Herbie Farnworth to the Dolphins brisbane can’t afford to lose another strike centre.

RAIDERS
Off-contract 2025: Emre Guler, Albert Hopoate, Danny Levi, Josh Papalii, Vena Patuki-Case, Hohepa Puru, Simi Sasagi, Xavier Savage, Tom Starling, Ethan Strange, Matthew Timoko, Kaeo Weekes
Analysis: The pick of the Raiders off-contract class is star centre Matt Timoko, who can add a fair few dollars to his next deal when he is free to negotiate with rivals on November 1. Fullback Xavier Savage fell out of favour with Ricky Stuart in 2023 and needs a big year to convince him that he is worth reinvesting in long-term. Savage has all the natural ability in the world, but needs to work harder and compete on both sides of the ball. Young gun Kaeo Weekes comes to the Raiders in 2024 looking for an opportunity to replace Jack Wighton in the No.6 jersey and if he can achieve that aim he will add a fair amount of money onto his next deal with the club or an NRL rival.

BULLDOGS
Off-contract 2025: Josh Addo-Carr, Josh Curran, Raymond Faitala-Mariner, Michael Gabrael, Bailey Hayward, Drew Hutchison, Kitione Kautoga, Kurt Mann, Jaeman Salmon, Ryan Sutton, Blake Taaffe, Jake Turpin, Blake Wilson, Bronson Xerri
Analysis: Josh Addo-Carr is currently on a big money deal worth a reported $800,000 a season, but has recently fallen out of favour at the club with reports linking him with a switch to the Eels as early as 2024. Addo-Carr is an incumbent Blues and Kangaroos star, but his form for the Bulldogs since joining the Belmore club has been inconsistent. The 28-year-old will be looking to convince the Bulldogs he should finish his career at the club or prove to rivals he is worth a big money switch. Raymon Faitala-Mariner is a club captain on a deal worth $800,000 a year, but is unwanted by the Bulldogs. The problem is there won’t be many other suitors for his services at that price if he is not playing first grade. Centre Bronson Xerri is looking to prove himself after four years out of the sport due to a ban and can increase his price tag with a big comeback season in 2024.
DOLPHINS
Off-contract 2025: Jack Bostock, Kenneath Bromwich, Harrison Graham, Robert Jennings, Isaiya Katoa, Felise Kaufusi, Josh Kerr, Connelly Lemuelu, Jeremy Marshall-King, Mark Nicholls, Sean O’Sullivan, Max Plath, Mason Teague
Analysis: Young playmaker Isaiya Katoa started strongly in his rookie year, but found himself dropped late in the season. Katoa is a halfback star of the future, but needs to work on some deficiencies in his game, most notably his defence. A reunion with the Panthers wouldn’t be out of the question for 2026 and beyond, particularly if Jarome Luai moves on. Hooker Jeremy Marshall-King was arguably the Dolphins’ best player in their maiden NRL season and can add considerably to his pay packet with a big year in 2024, be it at the Dolphins or potentially an NRL rival. Halfback Sean O’Sullivan had a solid first year with the Dolphins, but was out injured for a large chunk of it and has to prove to the Dolphins he is their main man at halfback long-term, especially with Katoa waiting in the wings.
SHARKS
Off-contract 2025: Daniel Atkinson, Kade Dykes, Dale Finucane, Thomas Hazelton, Royce Hunt, Oregon Kaufusi, William Kennedy, Cameron McInnes, Ronaldo Mulitalo, Briton Nikora, Sam Stonestreet, Braydon Trindall, Teig Wilton
Analysis: Fullback William Kennedy has been one of the Sharks’ best in recent seasons and can drive up his price tag by the time he next comes up for renewal. Kennedy will face internal pressure for the No.1 jersey from young gun Kade Dykes, which gives him added motivation in 2024. Cameron McInnes has been a workhorse for the Sharks, but if he wants to return to hooker he may have to leave Cronulla and there is no shortage of clubs who need a quality dummyhalf. Second-rower Briton Nikora has blossomed into a regular for New Zealand and could drive up his asking price with another big season for the Sharks before the November 1 deadline.
TITANS
Off-contract 2025: Tanah Boyd, Erin Clark, Iszac Fa’asuamaleaui, Jojo Fifita, Ryan Foran, Tony Francis, Ben Liyou, Ken Maumalo, Seth Nikotemo, Josiah Pahulu, Keenan Palasia, Aaron Schoupp, Harley Smith-Shields
Analysis: Halfback Tanah Boyd faces a make or break 2024 in a bid to convince Des Hasler he is the long-term No.7 for the Titans. Boyd’s versatility and ability to cover dummyhalf could see him in the sights of the Titans’ rivals if they don’t decide to keep him beyond 2025. Keenan Palasia comes to the Titans from the Broncos in 2024 and the late bloomer can ink a long-term extension with the club if he can have a big year in his first season on the Glitter Strip. Former Bulldogs centre Aaron Schoupp also faces a make or break season with the Titans in a bid to prove to Hasler he is worth reinvesting in long-term beyond 2025.
SEA EAGLES
Off-contract 2025: Josh Aloiai, Jake Arthur, Ethan Bullemor, Daly Cherry-Evans, Ben Condon, Clayton Faulalo, Aitasi James, Dean Matterson, Haumole Olakau’atu, Brad Parker, Toafofoa Sipley, Tommy Talau, Christian Tuipulotu
Analysis: Manly skipper Daly Cherry-Evans turns 36 the year his Sea Eagles deal expires in 2025, but while he is widely tipped to retire, don’t rule him out playing on. Cherry-Evans is still one of the fittest players at the club and still covets a second premiership win after tasting title success as a rookie in 2011. Cherry-Evans joked with foxsports.com.au he “would play on for as long as he can because what else am I going to do?”. Second-rower Haumole Olakau’atu is reportedly set to ink a mega extension with Manly, but could drive his price up even more with an Origin debut for the Blues in 2024. Tommy Talau comes to Manly from the Tigers in 2024 looking for an opportunity and can increase his asking price considerably with a big first campaign on the Northern Beaches.
STORM
Off-contract 2025: Joe Chan, Bronson Garlick, Tui Kamikamica, Josh King, Trent Loiero, Alec MacDonald, Ryan Papenhuyzen, Jonah Pezet, Lazarus Vaalepu
Analysis: Star fullback Ryan Papenhuyzen was reportedly being shopped around by the Storm after a horror run with injury. The 25-year-old needs to stay on the park and get back to his best to convince the Storm he is worth retaining long-term, especially because he is on around $800,000 a season. Papenhuyzen would have no shortage of interest from NRL rivals, but he needs to put his wretched run with injuries behind him if he wants to continue earning top dollar at the Storm or elsewhere. Prop Tui Kamikamica was one of the Storm’s best forwards in 2023 and can earn a nice little payday at the back end of his career with another big season in 2024. Young back-rower Trent Loiero cemented his place in the Storm team with 26 games in 2023 and will drive up his asking price on his next deal considerably with another consistent season in 2024.
KNIGHTS
Off-contract 2025: Jayden Brailey, Paul Bryan, Jed Cartwright, Adam Elliott, Jackson Hastings, Jack Hetherington, Tom Jenkins, Riley Jones, Dylan Lucas, Kai Pearce-Paul, Will Pryce, Fletcher Sharpe, Sebastian Su’a, Leo Thompson
Analysis: Jackson Hastings goes into his second season with the Knights with his future unclear after the club signed another No.7 in Jack Cogger from the Panthers. Hastings needs a big year at either halfback or five-eighth to convince the Knights he is a long-term playmaker for the club, while he can drive up his asking price to NRL rivals at the same time. Co-captain Jayden Brailey has played over eight games in a season just once in his four years at the club and needs to put his injuries behind him to convince the club to re-sign him. Lock Adam Elliott is entering his second year of a three-year deal at the Knights in 2024 and he will be 30 by the time he signs his next deal. Elliott can finish his career at the Knights with a contract extension or put himself in the shop window to rivals for what is likely his last NRL contract.
COWBOYS
Off-contract 2025: Tom Chester, Reuben Cotter, Robert Derby, Tom Duffy, Jack Gosiewski, Valentine Holmes, Zac Laybutt, Luciano Leilua, Heilum Luki, Griffin Neame, Mia Pua’avase, Reece Robson, Viliami Vailea
Analysis: Star centre Valentine Holmes is an incumbent Maroons and Kangaroos star, who has developed into one of the best centres in the game in his four seasons at the Cowboys. However, the 28-year-old was signed to the club on fullback money and needs a big season to convince the Cowboys to extends him on similar money beyond 2025. Second-rower Luciano Leilua enters the second full year of a three and a half year deal in 2024, but has fallen down the pecking order with the Cowboys unleashing a number of young guns in the back row. If the Cowboys want to keep Kulikefu Finefeuiaki they may look to offload Leilua who needs a big year to convince NRL rivals to invest in the 27-year-old’s services. Dummyhalf Reece Robson has blossomed into a NSW Origin hooker during his time at the Cowboys and the 25-year-old could command big dollars on the open market if the club can’t lock him up long-term. Reuben Cotter is another Queensland and Australian star, but given his age and versatility the Cowboys would be mad to let him go, but there will be plenty of teams waiting in the wings, which could drive up his asking price.
EELS
Off-contract 2025: Reagan Campbell-Gillard, Bryce Cartwright, Matt Doorey, Haze Dunster, Wiremu Greig, Clinton Gutherson, Brendan Hands, J’maine Hopgood, Joey Lussick, Toni Mataele, Luca Moretti, Joe Ofahengaue, Sean Russell, Blaize Talagi, Kelma Tuilagi, Sam Tuivaiti
Analysis: Lock J’maine Hopgood can drive his price tag up considerably with an Origin debut after being in and around the Maroons’ set-up last year. The 24-year-old is entering his prime and his best rugby league is still ahead of him, which could make him a hot commodity on the open market. Eels skipper Clinton Gutherson will be 31 the year his contract expires in 2025 and as one of the Parramatta’s big earners he will need to maintain his high standards to finish his career at the club on similar money with his next contract extension. Sean Russell could be the man to replace Gutherson at fullback and facilitate a switch to centre for his captain and will command a lot more money as a fullback the next time he hits the open market.
PANTHERS
Off-contract 2025: Mavrik Geyer, Harrison Hassett, Isaiah Iongi, Soni Luke, Riley Price, Brad Schneider, Izack Tago
Analysis: Star centre Izack Tago was unlucky not to debut for the Blues in Origin last year and the fact that the Panthers prioritised his signing over Stephen Crichton says everything. The 21-year-old can be one of the best if not the best centre in the game in the coming seasons and will drive his price tag up considerably with another big year in 2024, while he will have no shortage of suitors on the open market. Soni Luke has fallen down the pecking order at dummyhalf behind Luke Sommerton, but there is a plethora of clubs in need of a livewire No.9. Former Raiders halfback Brad Schneider could be the latest player to use being an understudy to Nathan Cleary as a path to a starting role at No.7 at another club in the future.
RABBITOHS
Off-contract 2025: Damien Cook, Siliva Havili, Jacob Host, Lachlan Ilias, Alex Johnston, Haizyn Mellars, Davvy Moale, Tyrone Munro, Daniel Suluka-Fifita, Cody Walker
Analysis: Halfback Lachlan Ilias needs a bumper 2024 to convince Jason Demetriou he is the club’s long-term halfback. Ilias has plenty of potential, but will face the added pressure of having Jack Wighton waiting in the wings as a potential playmaker at the club. Ilias took a cut price deal to stay at Souths and could command a much bigger contract on the back of a huge 2024 campaign. Damien Cook and Cody Walker are incumbent Blues Origin players and if they don’t hang up their boots after the 2025 season they will look to earn extensions to play on in 2026. Winger Alex Johnston could be the greatest NRL try-scorer ever by November 1, which could drive up his asking price for an extension at Souths. Enforcer Davvy Moale has a bright future and can drive up his price tag on his next deal with a big year as a number of Souths forwards enter the twilight of their careers.
DRAGONS
Off-contract 2025: Jack Bird, Ryan Couchman, Toby Couchman, Dylan Egan, Viliami Fifita, Sione Finau, Kyle Flanagan, Jacob Halangahu, Ben Hunt, Dan Russell
Analysis: Ben Hunt will be 35 when his Dragons contract expires in 2025 and if the club manage to hold onto him until then he could likely still earn a swan song season at a club like the Broncos in 2026. Hunt covets a premiership win after the heartbreak of 2015 and won’t be winning one with the Dragons, so a final fling with the club he started at would make sense. Jack Bird’s career has been hampered by repeated injuries, but he still offers plenty of versatility and toughness at the right price. Kyle Flanagan is looking to resurrect his career in his first season at the Dragons and can convince the club he can be their long-term halfback with a big season as a playmaker in 2024.
ROOSTERS
Off-contract 2025: Egan Butcher, Spencer Leniu, Tyler Moriarty, Junior Pauga, Brandon Smith, James Tedesco, Robert Toia, Sam Walker, Connor Watson
Analysis: Sam Walker has all the talent, but still needs to convince the Roosters he is the halfback to lead them to their next premiership. Still only 21, Walker is already earning $700,000 a year, but could command $1 million a season on the open market on the back of a big year in 2024, given the lack of quality halfbacks available. Roosters skipper James Tedesco will be 32 by the time his deal expires in 2025 and after a year of criticism needs to get back to his best if he wants to extend his career into 2026. Brandon Smith didn’t set the world on fire with his first season at the Roosters and still has plenty of work to do to convince the club he is their long-term No.9.
WARRIORS
Off-contract 2025: Bunty Afoa, Tom Ale, Mitch Barnett, Wayde Egan, Edward Kosi, Ali Leiataua, Te Maire Martin, Marcelo Montoya, Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad, Adam Pompey, Taine Tuaupiki, Ronald Volkman, Dylan Walker, Dallin Watene-Zelezniak
Analysis: Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad is coming off a great season, but given he will be 30 in 2025, he needs another big year in 2024 to convince the Warriors he is their long-term fullback. Nicoll-Klokstad will also face pressure from the returning Roger Tuivasa-Sheck. Te Maire Martin failed to fire in his first year at the Warriors due to injuries and faces a battle with Luke Metcalf and Chanel Harris-Tavita to prove he is the club’s long-term No.6. Wayde Egan has blossomed into an excellent dummyhalf at the Warriors and can drive his asking price up considerably with a big 2024, given how few quality dummyhalf’s there are available on th eopen market.
TIGERS
Off-contract 2025: Chris Faagutu, Josh Feledy, Justin Matamua, Brent Naden, David Nofoaluma, Isaiah Papali’i, Fonua Pole, Alex Seyfarth, Aidan Sezer, Charlie Staines, Brandon Tumeth, Stefano Utoikamanu
Analysis: Second-rower Isaiah Papali’i didn’t match his exploits at the Eels in his first season at the Tigers and needs a big 2024 to repay the club’s big investment, which is $900,000 annually. Prop Stefano Utoikamanu has been paid on promise for a long time and needs to start realising his potential in 2024. Utoikamanu may have debuted for the Blues last year, but he hasn’t delivered concstently at club level his whole career. Charlie Staines managed just nine games in his first season at the Tigers and needs to convince Benji Marshall he can be a long-term winger for the club. Staines burst onto the NRL scene with four tries on debut, but despite winning a premiership in 2022 has failed to live up to the hype since.
