Syd Fischer, a legendary yachtsman and philanthropist, passed away on April 8, 2021 at the age of 95. He was best known for his success in the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race, having won the event five times and finishing second a further four times.
Fischer was born in Sydney in 1926 and began sailing at the age of 12. He went on to become one of the most successful yachtsmen in Australia, winning the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race five times between 1978 and 1990.
