BOMBER TALKS WITH SWANS ‘PROGRESSING’
Sydney has emerged as a possible destination for out-of-favour Bomber Aaron Francis, reports 7 News Melbourne.
The 25-year-old has played just 54 games for Essendon since being selected with Pick 6 at the 2015 draft due to injury and form, as well as taking some time away from the game to focus on his mental health.
The Herald Sun reported Francis, who’s unsigned beyond this year, was “desperate for a fresh start”.
Mitch Cleary of 7 News reported via Twitter on Tuesday night that Sydney had now only shown interest in Francis, but that discussions were “progressing”.
Cleary added the Bombers, who are still yet to lock in a senior coach for next year, were “happy to facilitate a trade” for Francis.
The Swans are reportedly keen to add depth to their key-position defensive stocks, with the club earlier this year inquiring about Griffin Logue before the Docker settled on North Melbourne as his preferred destination.
Tom and Patrick McCartin held down the key defensive posts for the Swans this year, with Robbie Fox and Dane Rampe’s versatility allowing them to play on both small and tall forwards. Colin O’Riordan and Lewis Melican are the back-up tall backs.
LION HAS INTEREST FROM QUEENSLAND RIVAL
Off-contract Lion Tom Berry has attracted interest from the Gold Coast Suns, reports AFL Media.
Berry was drafted by Brisbane with Pick 36 in the 2018 draft but managed just 20 games in his four seasons at the club, of which six have been as an unused medical sub.
AFL Media reported on Tuesday night the Suns, who are keen to acquire a pressure player, were keeping tabs on Berry, who’s received a contract offer from Brisbane but weighing up his options.
The Suns will be one of the busiest teams this off-season, with the club looking to reportedly offload $2 million of salary cap space.
Suns defender Jack Bowes, who is on a heavily back-ended contract, has interest from at least five clubs – including the Lions – and fellow top-10 draftee Izak Rankine will join Adelaide, while Jeremy Sharp and Josh Corbett have been linked to moves away from Gold Coast.
Brayden Fiorini, who has a year to run on his contract but is no longer a first-choice option, has been heavily linked to Collingwood.
