Cameron Smith is in a battle to make the cut and progress to the weekend of the Australian Open in Sydney.
The former World No. 2 says he was “frustrated” with his first round, where he shot a 1-under 71 to be sitting in a tie for 56th, only one stroke above the current cut line.
Smith will tee off at midday (AEDT) on The Australian course with fellow Aussie and last weekend’s Australian PGA Champion Min Woo Lee, who carded -5 in his first round.

Cameron Davis is the solo leader of the men’s tournament after his course record-equalling score of 63 (-9) on The Lakes. American Patrick Rodgers is one shot back on -8.
Meanwhile in the women’s tournament, 16yo Rachel Lee dazzled in the first round, shooting a 6-under 67 and shares the lead with Korea’s Jenny Shin.
The Year 10 student from Sydney went birdie-birdie over the final two holes in the teaming rain to wrap up her outstanding round.
Aussie stars Minjee Lee (-3), Grace Kim (-2) and Hannah Green (E) are sixth, ninth and 15th respectively.
