Superstar mare to defend sprinting crown as $9m on the line in final day of Flemington carnival - LIVE

Champions Stakes Day signifies the final day of the Flemington carnival, and it promises to be a doozy with three Group 1’s worth $9 million to be run and won.

Arguably the world’s best sprinter, Imperatriz, will put that title on the line when she tackles the Champions Sprint over 1200 metres (Race 6 – 3:50pm AEDT).

Smart Godolphin mare In Secret, who probably wins an Everest a month ago with even luck, is the biggest challenger to Imperatriz but Bella Nipotina and the progressive Asfoora are both winning hopes as well.

Seven-time Group 1 winner Alligator Blood is favourite in the Champions Mile (1600m – 4:30pm AEDT), but the Chris Waller-trained mare Fangirl will be hard to hold out.

In the third and final Group 1 of the Flemington carnival, the UK raider West Wind Blows, who boasts a close-up second to Melbourne Cup winner Without A Fight last start, is the one to beat in the Champions Stakes (2000m – 5:10pm AEDT). Kiwi mare Prowess and the consistent Atishu look the hardest to beat.
