State of Origin 2023 Game 1 LIVE updates: NSW Blues vs Queensland Maroons at Adelaide Oval

State of Origin over the years

Here’s cool graphic looking at total State of Origin wins over time.

Queensland have bragging rights, with 67 wins to NSW’s 57. There were a couple of draws in there, before golden point was introduced.

It was pretty much level pegging before Queensland dominated the Blues from 2006 to 2013, with eight consecutive series wins.

The Blues won three of four series (2018 to 2021) and thought they had done enough last year before the Maroons’ famous 22-12 win at Suncorp Stadium in the decider.

It was some turnaround after getting belted 44-12 by the Blues just a few weeks earlier. A tough night to be a Blues fan.

Adelaide’s gearing up for Origin

Reporter Dan Walsh is in Adelaide tonight for Game One, along with a handful of others from the Herald’s Sport team. Here’s a quick on-the-ground report from him in the lead up to kick off:

Calm before the storm here in Adelaide. Despite a fairly muted build-up, rugby league has rolled into town on game day.

Plenty of maroon and sky blue in the pubs and streets, not much navy to be honest. And, most importantly, a clear radar after two drizzly days in the lead-up.

The track looks in pristine condition and word around town is we’ve had a late kick in ticket sales and will push closer to the 53,500-strong capacity than first reported. Only a few tickets left aside from the Adelaide Oval members passes.
