Souths halves decimated by injuries as Bennett weighs up backline options

South Sydney will be without star playmaker Cody Walker for up to three weeks and his scrum base partner Jamie Humphreys for a month.

The Rabbitohs latest injury blow has Wayne Bennett weighing up playing either utility Jayden Sullivan or $650,000 English recruit Lewis Dodd at halfback for Saturday’s clash with North Queensland in Perth.

Sullivan and Latrell Mitchell trained in the halves on Monday morning, with Dodd absent from the Rabbitohs field session after playing NSW Cup on Sunday.

Injured recruit Josh Schuster swapped into five-eighth with Mitchell during training but is still several weeks away from an NRL return.

Alex Johnston is expected to return on the left wing and trained there on Monday alongside Euan Aitken at left centre.

Jack Wighton trained on the right in the same role he filled against the Roosters to accommodate Mitchell’s return.

Winger Mikaele Ravalawa is also out for 6-8 weeks with a hamstring tear, while Walker and Humphreys have been diagnosed with hamstring strains after the trio were forced off against the Roosters.
