‘So painful’: Picture sums up Scott horror in $30m battle as drought goes on

Adam Scott couldn’t find the spark in the final round of the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow with Wyndham Clark becoming a runaway winner.

The tournament has had a massive increase in prize money, going from a purse of $9 million (A$13.3m) last year to $20 million (A$29.6m) this year, with the winner taking home $3.6m.

Scott is on-course of a top-10 finish but will be disappointed to only be one-under par in his final round after 15 holes, having started the day five shots behind Clark.

One disastrous moment on the par-three sixth hole summed up the faltering challenge.

The Australian had a two-foot, three-inch putt for par but somehow missed with the ball lipping out, much to his dismay.

He did somewhat make amends on the 15th however when he came close to making a slam-dunk on his approach from an awkward slope.

Scott is still searching for his first win on the PGA Tour in more than three years.
