Smith stuns with ‘one of the best shots you’ll ever see’ in $25m bid

A stunning performance on the sixth hole has kept Australian golf star Cameron Smith at the top end of the leaderboard in the first round of the Tour Championship, but Adam Scott didn’t fare as well.

Smith, who was paired with Rory McIlroy, struggled to find his rhythm on the first five holes.

He shot par on four holes, but a bogey on the second had him struggling.

However, Smith rescued his form in the sixth when he shot an eagle.

It was just what the Aussie star needed to get him back on track and left one commentator in awe.

“This is one of the best shots you’ll ever see,” the commentator said.

“To pick a ball out of a fairway bunker with that club is a miracle.”

Smith went to shoot three consecutive pars before bogeying the 11th.

However, back-to-back birdies ensured Smith didn’t fall too far off the pace.

Another bogey on the 16th threatened to derail his first round as Smith slipped to T11 on the leaderboard.

But the world No. 2 shot a birdie on the next hole to get himself back in contention and finished his first round at seven-under.

Meanwhile, fellow Aussie Adam Scott is several strokes off the top as he finished his first round at two-under.

Scott shot a birdie on the third hole but then bogeyed the fifth, although he immediately rebounded with a birdie on the sixth.

He continued his good form with a birdie on the tenth and the twelfth hole to sit at three-under, but a bogey on the 15th meant he wouldn’t be sitting terribly high on the leaderboard.
