Star Saints forward Max King will miss the rest of the season after hurting his left shoulder for the second time this season.
King was subbed out of the game against Melbourne after just six minutes when the shoulder was injured as he attempted to spoil Demons defender Steven May.
Saints’ coach Ross Lyon confirmed on 3AW that King would see a surgeon on Monday after he was diagnosed as having dislocated his shoulder.
“It’s heartbreaking for him and us, but he will return,” Lyon said.
King missed the first nine rounds after injuring his shoulder in the pre-season and undergoing surgery. He had kicked 14 goals in six games before heading into last night’s game.
Lyon said the club and his family would get around King as they dealt with the disappointment of the injury. He added there were several examples of players overcoming the misfortune King was experiencing before having great careers.
“I have seen it with [Nathan] Fyfe. Fyfe had a few shoulder dislocations and then picked the right option and came back and had a great career,” Lyon said.
King did not play in his first season as he recovered from a knee reconstruction and was tracking beautifully towards fulfilling his promise after kicking 52 goals last season.
