St Kilda legend Robert Harvey has become the second figure in as many days to announce a homecoming to Moorabbin, joining Ross Lyon as an assistant coach.
Hawthorn confirmed on Tuesday Harvey had departed the club after accepting an assistant coaching role at St Kilda – the club he played 383 games for.
The dual Brownlow medallist will join a revamped coaching department headed by Lyon, which includes Harvey’s former teammate Lenny Hayes.

Harvey coached at both Carlton and St Kilda between 2008 and 2011 before spending over a decade at Collingwood, which included a stint as caretaker coach after the departure of Nathan Buckley.
The 51-year-old joined Hawthorn at the end of 2021, assisting Sam Mitchell in his first year as senior coach.
“Robert is an incredibly well-credentialed assistant coach and we are thrilled to have him join us for the upcoming season,” St Kilda chief executive Simon Lethlean said.
“His connection with the club is undeniable, having become one of modern-day football’s most decorated players during his time here.
“While we understand for Saints fans the idea of Rob and Lenny back together is extremely nostalgic, it should also be very exciting given their coaching expertise.”
Harvey said he was hopeful the work ethic he showed as a player attitude would be reflected in the Saints’ playing group.
“On the field I always wanted to get the very best out of myself and be someone my teammates could rely on,” Harvey said.
“As a coach, those values have been central to the way I go about things, and I’m excited to help the club I love emerge stronger in 2023.
“I grew up at St Kilda, so to now have the opportunity to help others do the same and hopefully play a role in bringing success to the league’s best fans, I cannot wait to get started.”

The coaching inclusions add to an off-season of change for the Saints, which included football veteran Geoff Walsh accepting a role as football boss.
Hawks football boss Rob McCartney thanked Harvey for his contribution to the club.
“Since walking through the doors at our football club, Harvs has shown a great ability to connect with his players and fellow coaches,“ McCartney said.
“In recent days we have had an open and honest conversation about Harvs’ desire to return to his former club given the changes that have occurred there.
“We would like to acknowledge Harvs’ service to club and wish him well for the future as he returns to his former club in St Kilda.”
