Roosters fume at double standards as Storm enforcer escapes punishment over hip-drop

The Roosters are reportedly furious Storm enforcer Felise Kaufusi wasn’t charged for an alleged hip-drop tackle on Siosiua Taukeiaho as Lindsay Collins faces a season-ending suspension.

Roosters powerbrokers are said to be confused as to how Kaufusi escaped sanction from the NRL’s match review committee according to the SMH.

The 30-year-old can be seen dropping down on the legs of the Tricolours prop as Harry Grant and Brandon Smith wrestle him standing up in the 50th minute of the crucial contest.

No action was taken against Kaufusi become he was reportedly deemed to have made contact with the ground when twisting around Taukeiaho’s hip — not the back of his legs.

While Tauekiaho escaped injury during the tackle, Roosters bosses are angry following Collins’ potential suspension and the stance taken by the NRL on hip-drop tackles in recent weeks.

Meanwhile, coach Trent Robinson will meet with club officials to discuss whether to seek a downgrade on Collins’ grade three dangerous contact charge.

If the 26-year-old takes the early guilty plea, he will be sidelined for four games after Tom Eisenhuth reeled out of the tackle with a syndesmosis injury.

The Melbourne utility will now be sidelined six weeks according to a club statement, after missing majority of the season with a calf injury.

Collins now faces a nervous wait and will only return to the field this season if his side make the grand final without a downgrade.

If the Roosters lose at the judiciary, his penalty would be increased to five matches and therefore rule him out for 2022.

Speaking in the post-match press conference, Robinson said the topic “is not for me to sort of go into”, sparking questions from Fox League’s Gorden Tallis.

“It was a bit weird when Lara (Pitt) asked him the question about the hip drop,” Tallis said.

“I talk to Trent on radio and he has always got an opinion on a lot of stuff that happens.

“It was a simple question. Yeah he has got nothing to worry about or he has got something to worry about.

The Roosters will also be without enforcer Victor Radley and winger Daniel Tupou for their cross-town clash against the Rabbitohs in Round 25.

Radley suffered an ugly head knock but returned to the field post-match, while Tupou exited the field with a groin injury.
