Roo coup: LDU shuns free agency offers to sign long-term deal with North

North Melbourne midfielder Luke Davies-Uniacke has shunned huge offers from rival clubs to commit to the Roos for the rest of his career.

The 25-year-old, who was out of contract and set to become one of the game’s most in demand free agents, has signed a seven-year contract extension that will keep him at Arden Street until the end of 2032.

Collingwood, Geelong and St Kilda will all be disappointed with Davies-Uniacke’s re-signing, with all three clubs showing interest in the star midfielder, who won his first best and fairest last season.

His commitment to North Melbourne is a significant fillip for the club when you consider the No.4 draft pick from 2017 has only played in 22 wins out of 112 games.

“Luke is a very important and much-loved member of our playing group, so to have him sign on for seven more years is brilliant news for us and our supporters,” club football boss Brady Rawlings said in a statement.

“His long-term commitment despite significant interest from other clubs is also a fantastic show of confidence in our program and the future of the club.

“At 25, Luke has plenty of great football still ahead of him, and we look forward to watching him deliver it here at North Melbourne.”

More to come.
