Jockey Nash Rawiller can continue his red-hot form on Randwick’s Kensington track on Monday with five excellent prospects on the Anzac Day program.
Rawiller booted home a winning treble at Hawkesbury’s big stand-alone Saturday last weekend, including two Group 3 successes.
Today he will link up with Emperor, the short-priced favourite in the opening race, along with Deniliquin, La Pittrice, Turning and Master Copy in the final race.
One of the highlights of the day will be the $60,000 Anzac Day Cup over 2400m where the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained Yarrawonga commands favouritism.
Yarrawonga, who was sourced from Ireland, is the most inexperienced stayer in the field but has more scope for improvement than many of his opponents. The gelding led and rallied all the way down the straight when pipped by one of Tuesday’s rivals in Casual Connection at Warwick Farm. He meets that horse 2kg better and should turn the tables.
Rawiller’s mount Deniliquin won well at Hawkesbury and Warwick Farm but was a shade disappointing last start and can improve.
The Brad Widdup-trained Fun Sunday holds plenty of appeal in race two, having rounded them up strongly to score at Wyong.
Fun Sunday then raced wide and worked hard, yet she still got to the line well when just behind the placegetters at Newcastle. This is her first go beyond 1600m but is rock-hard fit and looks excellent value at double-figure odds.
In the opening race, the Chris Waller-trained Waikiki should perform well, having only raced twice and was placed on this course when making her debut last July. She has trialled on four occasions since and her latest effort was good, showing plenty of speed before being under a throttle hold late to finish a close third. The booking of “Magic Man” Joao Moreira is a bonus.
It may have taken Buillt eight starts to break his maiden status, but his first-up victory was
impressive, and he looks hard to beat in race six.
The three-year-old tracked the speed then took a little while to wind up but when he did, he hit the
line strongly. That was his first start for four months so expect further improvement here.
