The transfer window is open and clubs are looking to strengthen their squads. Two of the biggest clubs in Europe, Real Madrid and Liverpool, have reportedly expressed interest in signing Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.
Wirtz is a 17-year-old midfielder who has been making waves in the Bundesliga since his debut in 2020. He has already made 24 appearances for Leverkusen, scoring three goals and providing four assists. He has also been capped by Germany at the Under-21 level.
The youngster has been compared to the likes of Kai Havertz and Toni Kroos due to his technical ability and vision. He is a creative midfielder who can play in a number of positions, including as an attacking midfielder or a deep-lying playmaker.
Real Madrid and Liverpool are both looking to add more youth to their squads, and Wirtz could be the perfect addition. He is still young and has plenty of potential to develop into a world-class player. He would also add some much-needed creativity to both teams’ midfields.
However, signing Wirtz won’t be easy. Leverkusen are reportedly demanding a fee of around €30 million for the youngster, which could be too much for either club. Furthermore, Wirtz is reportedly keen to stay at Leverkusen for the time being and continue his development there.
It remains to be seen if either Real Madrid or Liverpool will make a move for Wirtz this summer. If they do, it could be a shrewd move as the youngster has all the attributes to become one of Europe’s top midfielders in the future.
