Canberra Raiders forward Joseph Tapine is staying in the nation’s capital, with the in-demand prop choosing to re-sign with the club for another four years.
According to reports, Tapine’s deal is worth $3.4 million over the course of the extension; the 28-year-old becoming one of the league’s highest-paid props.
With one year remaining on his current deal, Tapine’s extension will carry him through until the end of the 2027 season.
Club CEO Don Furner announced the retainment of the prop in a club statement on Monday morning.
“There’s no doubt Joe has had his best season in the NRL in 2022 and we’re very excited to have him re-commit to the club for the long-term,” Furner said.
“His development on and off the field has been something that we’re very proud of and we know he will continue to be one of the most valuable parts of our side in the future.
“We wish Joe all the best on his upcoming World Cup campaign with New Zealand and we can’t wait to see him back on the field for the Raiders for the next five seasons.”
Averaging 165 running metres per game along with 29 tackles per game, Tapine has established himself as one of the best in the game, taking the Meninga medal given to the best player at the Raiders.
