Race-by-race preview and tips for Scone on Thursday
By Adrian Sciglitano

Selections based on a good track.

Race 1

8. Lighthouse Lass has been well educated for her debut with three trials for the Cassandra Stummer yard, her latest an eye-catching effort over 900m. She was entered for the Gimcrack Stakes as an early two-year old and has always shown good ability. She is drawn to get the run of the race and figures to be in the finish. Dangers: 5. Be Sharp and 7. Jasira come through the same trial at Scone behind Lighthouse Lass and have shown enough speed to be competitive on debut. 3. Comongin is next best for the Brett Robb stable on debut after a good trial win at Dubbo.
How to play it: Lighthouse Lass to win.

Race 2

This looks a nice race for 3. Fuld’s Doubt to get another win on the board. She resumes after a dominant trial victory over 900m and was thought enough of last preparation to contest the Denise’s Joy (1100m) at listed level and a Tab Highway. She is drawn to get back in the run, but is well placed after the 3kg claim. Dangers: 5. Pride To Follow was deep ended first up over 1000m when not disgraced in city grade and was a good winner at both of her country starts prior to that. 4. Savoca and 1. Lizzie’s Gem can sneak into the minor money.
How to play it: Fuld’s Doubt to win.

Race 3

3. Great Point struggled to finish off her race last start when tested in Tab Highway company for the first time over a mile. She drops back to 1400m and will find this much easier than what she contested last start, just has to overcome the wide draw. Dangers: 5. Taipan Legend broke through for a much-deserved win last start over 1600m at Dubbo, comes back to 1400m at his home track and maps to get the run of the race. 2. Hammoon Thunder is ready to peak now third up into his campaign and can figure in the placings, and 1. Bertie will run his usual honest race.
How to play it: Great Point to win.

Race 4

4. Shadow Shot kept chipping away over 2300m last start when fourth behind Final Reset. Before that, he was a dominant winner over 2100m in benchmark 66 grade. Only has to reproduce his past two performances to figure in the finish again. Dangers: 5. Jack Of Aces will find this easier than provincial grade where he hasn’t been disgraced in his past couple. He maps to get a good run in transit and will have no issues at the 2200m. 3. Aiseirigh and 9. Yorikiri both have each-way claims.
How to play it: Shadow Shot each way.

Race 5

4. Crown Legend was heavily supported first up for the Griffith stable when narrowly defeated at Orange over 1000m. Steps up to 1100m here and gets blinkers for the first time, as well as the services of Aaron Bullock. Dangers: 5. Gold Capital has trialled well for his debut and draws to get a good run in transit for Braith Nock. 1. Harry Tudor showed good ability when formerly trained by Brad Widdup and was competitive in both runs for Brett Robb. The son of Frankel resumes after more than a year off and warrants respect from a good draw with the claim. 2. Nor Nor West is the next best.
How to play it: Crown Legend to win.

Race 6

5. See You Then has only had the one barrier trial in readiness for her debut where she showed good speed and is sure to be well educated from the Rod Northam stable. She is drawn to get a good run in transit over 900m and the early market support suggests she has good ability. Dangers: 2. Cool Space was stuck in the wrong part of the track last start when sent around favourite at Muswellbrook. He has since trialled well and is drawn to get all the favours. 1. Straand Care did enough on debut over 900m at Newcastle and is sure to take natural improvement coming back to country grade. 6. Sharoha is next best from the Nathan Doyle stable who has to be respected in this grade.
How to play it: See You Then to win.

Race 7

1. Major Look is well set up coming back to country grade after running midfield in the Magic Millions maiden last start. He is drawn to get the run of the race from an inside draw and all his form last preparation in provincial and city grade has to be respected. Danger: 8. Apache Jack has been a model of consistency this preparation and is knocking on the door to win a race, will get back from the draw and hit the line hard. 2. Xeres and 3. Bullfighter will make their own luck on the speed and can both give a sight coming back to a dry surface.
How to play it: Major Look to win.

Race 8

2. Climate Control is well suited coming back to BM58 grade after contesting a Tab Highway last start at Wyong. He was only beaten by 1.6 lengths in Highway class earlier in his campaign, and is always competitive on his home track. He is tasked with the wide draw, but gets the services of Reece Jones to offset that. Dangers: 11. Girrawheen is never far away and races well at Scone with form around Sir Remlap warranting respect in this grade. 12. Arambys and 14. Upwardly Mobile can both run well on their home tracks.
How to play it: Climate Control each way.
