Pride marks Think About It has one to take into calculations

The colours are the same, their first four starts bare a striking similarity, and Joe Pride is hoping Think About It can continue on the path to same path to stakes racing as Private Eye on Saturday.

After wins at Kembla, Gosford and a Warwick Farm midweeker, Think About It takes the next step up in grade at Rosehill on Saturday.

“He has been a slow maturer, but there is obviously some quality there,” Pride said. “He’s ready for this next step, and it will probably tell us if we get into the autumn with him or have a break.

“He is going to get up in trip so, although they have had a similar start to their careers, him and Private Eye are completely different horses. Think About It is going to make a nice horse but it is a long way to being a Private Eye.”

Private Eye has risen to the top of the sprinting ranks and will be back at the Warwick Farm barrier trials on Monday preparing for a Newmarket Handicap return in March and a date in the TJ Smith at The Championships in April.

Like Private Eye, Think It Over started his career with a Kembla win in the Proven Thoroughbreds silks before taking steps through the grades. There was a touch of arrogance in his most recent win at Warwick Farm.

“I like starting my horse off at Kembla, it gives them a good chance to show what they can do,” Pride said. “We knew from the start Think It About was going to get up in trip, and I think getting him to the 1350m will really suit on Saturday.

“He has got the ability to go a bit further yet, and he will be a horse to watch this year.”

Think It About, which is a $2 favourite in the last, could finish a good day for Pride, who’s team has been flying during the festive season.

He has decided to run Mariamia in the Expressway Stakes, which offers a great opportunity for her get some group 2 black type on her resume.

“When there were only four nominations, I thought she had come through her win well from a couple of weeks ago and it would be good test for her,” Pride said. “She has got a wide barrier but has the speed to overcome that. She has improved and will run well.”

Dehorned Unicorn, another winner for Pride in the past month, stays in benchmark 88 company after his fourth behind Mariamia a fortnight ago.

“Things didn’t go right for him the other day, and he is capable of running well,” Pride said.
