SUNS EYEING ROOS’ ANDERSON

Grand Final

The Gold Coast Suns have “mild interest” in out-of-contract Kangaroos midfielder Jed Anderson, reports Channel 7’s Mitch Cleary.

It comes after a disrupted year from the 28-year old over his hesitance to receive his second Covid-19 vaccination, averaging 22 disposals from 14 games.

Anderson has made 99 AFL appearances since making his debut for Hawthorn in 2013 before crossing to Arden Street at the end of 2015.

Gold Coast and North Melbourne have plenty of other deals to thrash out though prior to Wednesday’s trade deadline.

Cleary reports the Kangaroos will resume talks with Port Adelaide on Monday over a deal for Jason Horne-Francis and work out whether extra teams needs to get involved after the original four-club deal was rejected by the AFL.

The Suns are meanwhile set to off-load Izak Rankine (to Adelaide), Jack Bowes (Geelong) and potentially Fiorini (Collingwood) and Jeremy Sharpe (Fremantle).

GOOD FIT’ FOR CROUCH AMID UNCERTAIN CROWS FUTURE

Former AFL forward Josh Jenkins believes Sydney would be a good landing spot for out-favour Crow Matt Crouch.

Crouch, who’s contracted for 2023, is reportedly weighing up whether to request a trade in the next few days amid reported interest from three clubs.

It comes after the 27-year old played just 11 senior games for the Crows this season including being dropped to the SANFL several times.

And while no club has been firmly linked to the midfielder, Jenkins threw up the Swans as a suitor.

“I see Sydney as a good fit for him,” Jenkins said.

“Josh Kennedy moves on, Luke Parker’s not getting any younger, Chad Warner is young and slight, James Rowbottom I like, he’s not a big body but he’s a strong body.

“I think they could do with Matt Crouch around the ball. He is a player who you need to focus on what he does do and not what he does not do.”

LOBB URGED TO CONSIDER OTHER VIC OPTIONS

Does Rory Lobb need to open up his list of Victorian suitors to beyond the Western Bulldogs?

Trade talks between the Dockers and Bulldogs are at an impasse for the key forward, with Fremantle knocking back an offer of Pick 29 – set to move back to selection 30 or 31.

It comes with Lobb contracted for next season as Fremantle has remained steadfast that it wants to retain the 29-year old despite his trade request to move to Victoria, where he’s already purchased a home and his partner and her family have relocated to.

Speaking on SEN, Dockers great Paul Hasleby backed up club list boss David Walls’ claims that if players nominate to return to Victoria, they shouldn’t be able to choose which club.

“That‘s an interesting point because if the Dockers open it up to every Victorian club … there’s nine clubs in Melbourne and one down the road in Geelong,” he said.

“Right now the pick coming fourth for Rory Lobb from the Western Bulldogs is not suitable (for Fremantle). I think a bit will play out with Josh Dunkley, so they may acquire some good picks that can be used on Rory Lobb.

“But if Rory Lobb really wants to get to Melbourne and live there, surely he maybe has to broaden his horizons and Fremantle can see if there’s a better deal that suits them and really tempts them to make that deal.

“Because they’re better him with him in that line-up. Take him out of that group then I think it’s not as strong and probably puts you in the bottom four in terms of key forward groups in the competition.”
