A police officer is going viral after his bizarre response to a wild all-out brawl captured on camera.
The terrifying scene took place between American fans at the weekend’s NHL clash between the Aizona Coyotes and Boston Bruins.
Fans are used to seeing fighting in the NHL — but it normally takes place on the ice rink.
A brawl erupted in the grandstand inside the Mullett Arena in Tempe and it was made all the more dramatic as The Black Keys’ “Howlin’ for You” hit blasted in the background, according to The New York Post.
The video, which has more than 4 million views on Twitter, shows several fans throwing a flurry of punches and a Coyotes fan is also seen slapping a drink toward an oncoming Bruins fan just five seconds in.
Unfortunately, the same Coyotes fan seemed to punch and daze a woman in a Rob Gronkowski T-shirt, who luckily got up quickly after.
One fan posted a video in the aftermath of the fight claiming to be holding the dislodged tooth of one of the people involved.
Attention from fans on social media quickly turned to the efforts of the police officer in the foreground — and his complete indifference to the chaos unfolding around him.
The author of the video, Twitter user Pete Blackburn, captioned the video: “Insane crowd fight at the Coyotes-Bruins game last night. Excellent work from the cop in the foreground”.
One Twitter user wrote: “1 Cop came in and settled it while Waldo stood and watched”.
It sparked plenty of jokes on social media.
Multiple cops came over to separate the melee soon thereafter, attempting to minimize the already done damage.
According to a report from KTAR News, one person was arrested for aggravated assault as a result of the incident. The same report indicates that five others were cited for disorderly conduct. No names tied to the encounter have yet been released.
The Coyotes are playing in the 5,000-seat Arizona State arena for three years until they get a new NHL arena. Arizona won the game, 4-3.
