However, the man decided to confront Keane and allegedly aimed a headbutt in his direction where he connected with the Red Devils legend’s chest and chin.

Richards then stepped in to defend his Sky Sports colleague as footage circulating around social media shows him holding the man back and grabbing onto his shirt.

However, the man quickly left the area before security could arrive.

In a statement from Sky given to the Daily Mail, it revealed the matter is now under police investigation.

“We understand the police are investigating an alleged assault by a member of the public immediately preceding the footage circulating on social media,” the statement read.

“In the footage seen, Micah Richards was acting to defuse a situation.”

The incident occurred just as Alejandro Garnacho thought he’d scored an 88th-minute winner for Manchester United, but it was ruled out for offside.

To add insult to injury for Keane, it was Arsenal who went on to win the game deep in stoppage time thanks to goals from Declan Rice and Gabriel Jesus.

The defeat leaves United sitting in 11th with two wins and two defeats from their opening four games of the Premier League season.

Erik ten Hag’s side will face Brighton at Old Trafford when the Premier League resumes after the upcoming international break.
