Round 1
EELS SUFFER DOUBLE INJURY BLOW The Eels have suffered a double injury blow with centre Waqa Blake breaking his arm and lock Nathan Brown suffering a hamstring complaint in pre-season. Wacko’s Whispers reported the pair suffered the injuries at Eels training, with Blake now racing the clock for Round 1 and Brown in doubt for the Pre-season Challenge. Blake played on the wing in the 2022 Grand Final for the Eels, despite struggles under the high ball throughout the season. Brown fell out of favour as a starting lock last season replaced by Ryan Matterson, but was recalled on the bench for the grand final. Brown has been linked with a move back to the Tigers as he enters the final year of his contract at Parramatta. Both players were a good chance to feature in the Eels’ 17 for Round 1, but will now join the casualty ward as they try to return to full fitness ahead of the 2023 season.
