‘Oops’: Dolphins’ hilarious dig at Munster over failed $5.6m bid for Storm star

The Dolphins couldn’t resist having a crack at failed signing Cameron Munster in a hilarious promotional video ahead of their inaugural NRL season in 2023.

Munster was close to inking a reported $1.5 million a season deal with the Dolphins that would have made him the highest paid player in the game.

However, a chat with Craig Bellamy and Penrith’s back-to-back premiership triumphs convinced him to re-sign with the Storm until 2027 and chase more titles in Melbourne.

Wayne Bennett was critical of Munster for not personally giving him a phone call to inform him of his decision.

The Storm star rubbed salt into the wound of the Dolphins by admitting he was done in Melbourne, before he had a late change of heart.

The Dolphins are currently busy trumpeting the club’s inaugural season launch with social media content, including a video posted this week.

The video sees club mascot “Phinny” the dolphin creating a group chat for the Dolphins’ foundation players.

Phinny adds names including Felise Kaufusi, Jamayne Isaako and Mark Nicholls to the group chat and then adds “Cameron Munster”.

“Oops,” Phinny writes before removing Munster from the chat.

Munster turning down a monster $5.6 million deal was a massive blow for the Dolphins, who have struggled to recruit a marquee player, but at least they still have a sense of humour.
