The Melbourne City star then turned French left-back Lucas Hernandez into a pretzel before firing a cross along the ground across the box.

And Goodwin caught his opposing number Benjamin Pavard napping as he ghosted into the box unmarked and lashed a finish high into the net past a helpless Hugo Lloris in the 10th minute.

The goal sparked wild scenes on social media as many were left stunned the Aussies had taken the lead against the defending world champions.

Unfortunately, the euphoria would last just 18 minutes as France equalised through midfielder Adrien Rabiot before adding a second with a simple tap-in from Olivier Giroud.
