ODI LIVE: Pressure on Finch amid fresh slump as Aussies eye clean sweep

LIVE — Australia will hunt a series cleansweep to start the home summer on Saturday as it takes on Zimbabwe in the third and final ODI in Townsville.

Australia has been utterly dominant in the series, winning the first match with 99 balls to spare, and the second inside just 15 overs.

The third ODI could see Australia experiment with its XI with an eye on both the T20 World Cup this year, and next year’s 50-over World Cup in just over 12 months’ time.

It is also a crucial opportunity for captain Aaron Finch, whose form woes continue. He’s played 10 ODIs this year scoring just 159 runs at 15.9.

Nonetheless, selectors chair George Bailey gave Finch his full support on Friday.

“Finchy’s record over his entire career is a pretty incredible one,” Bailey told reporters.

“He’s the leader of the team and I think you’d be a very brave person to write him off.

“Very excited for him to lead his team in a home World Cup which is pretty special.”
