NSW police are investigating claims from a Sydney NRL club that one of their star players has been the victim of an alleged blackmail attempt.
The high profile player reportedly sent a lewd photograph to another account on social media, as per The Sydney Morning Herald.
The account who received the picture then requested $5000 from the player or the photograph would be sent around to friends and family.

It would be no bluff, as the photograph was indeed sent to some of the player’s friends and family after the requested amount failed to be paid.
The player in question then alerted his club of the situation while police encouraged them to alert friends on social media to report the account holder.
“Hey this is mad awkward but [account holder] is sending a photo of my d*** around trying to get money out of me and sent it to you,” the Herald reported the player sent to one of his friends.
“Would you be able to report them for sexual harassment? Might help. Sorry bout (sic) this but would be greatly appreciated x.”

The player has not been named but a club spokesman told the Herald the matter had been reported to police and relevant social media companies.
“It’s important to note the player has been the victim here. It appears that this sort of incident is occurring on a regular basis to people across society,” they told the Herald.
According to the NSW police, the account holder who attempted to blackmail the player is based overseas. The account has since been shut down.
