Hynes blames himself for loss to Warriors

Now it’s time for Sharks’ captain Nicho Hynes to step up to the mic, and he’s being pretty hard on himself.

Cronulla had a bye last week, getting a handy two points to add to their total, but they were all over the place against the Warriors in round five, and lost the game after leading 20-0 early in the first half.

“Our kicking game needs to be a bit better, I let us down a little bit in that second half against the Warriors,” Hynes said.

“We just need to fix those individual errors, and get my kicking game a bit better.”

Most teams are relieved when they get a bye, but Hynes said it gave the team too much time to think about the loss.

“Hopefully we can turn our wrongs into rights tonight,” Hynes said.

Tedesco says he’s recovered after round five concussion

Roosters’skipper James Tedesco just spoke on Fox ahead of the 6pm kick off at PointsBet Stadium in Cronulla.

Tedesco, who missed last week’s game against the Storm due to a concussion suffered in round five, said he felt good after stepping away due to the mandatory 11-day-stand-down. It was the eighth concussion he has suffered in his career.

“Every situation is different, but I have no sort of side effects or symptoms after it…it’s important long term to have that time off for later in our lives and our careers,” Tedesco said.

The Roosters were lost without him last week, and had a completion rate of just 61 per cent. Tedesco said his team needed to clean up their errors and make it through their sets if they hoped to beat the Sharks tonight.

Nicho Hynes extends with Sharks

In case you missed it, Dally M Medal winner Nicho Hynes has signed a $6 million contract extension which will keep him at Cronulla for life.

The Sharks’ star halfback resisted temptation to test his value on the open market from November 1, penning the five-year extension wchich will keep him at Cronulla until 2029.

According to sources familiar with the agreement, Hynes’ annual salary will average about $1 million per season for the next six years. It also allows for 2024, in which Hynes was already under contract for.

It’s a huge win for the Sharks and coach Craig Fitzgibbon, who led Cronulla into the top four last year on the back of Hynes’ stunning first season in the Shire.

Just one change for the Sharks, who are bringing Oregon Kaufusi into the starting side.

The Roosters remain unchanged from the team Trent Robinson named earlier in the week.

Good evening

Good evening, and welcome to our live coverage of the Friday night showdown between the Sydney Roosters and the Cronulla Sharks.

My name is Billie Eder and I will bring you all the kicks and controversies of tonight’s game.

It’s a big game for both teams, who have had a bit of a lacklustre start to the 2023 season.

The Roosters sit eighth on the ladder, a disappointing position for the team who were tipped to reach the grand final, and the Sharks are in eleventh following a dramatic loss to the Warriors in round five.

So strap yourself in, and enjoy the game!
