North Melbourne CEO quits as Clarko overhaul continues

Ben Amarfio has resigned from his role as CEO of North Melbourne.

Foxfooty.com.au has confirmed Amarfio’s departure, which comes less than three years into his tenure, during which time the football club became debt-free for the first time in 34 years.

His departure continues a wide-ranging overhaul of the football club under Alastair Clarkson, who is not slated to officially begin in his role until November 1.

Club president Sonja Hood led the play for Clarkson’s services, with her and the four-time premiership coach fronting the media to announce his appointment last month.

Amarfio’s resignation comes a week after football boss Dan McPherson left the club along with assistant coaches Heath Younie and Anthony Rocca.

Replacing McPherson was former Melbourne captain and assistant coach to Clarkson at Hawthorn, Todd Viney.

Hood said earlier this year Amarfio’s job was secure for 2023 should he want to continue in the role.

Amarfio took over from former CEO Carl Dilena in late 2019, with Dilena having been in the role for seven years.

He is set to depart the club on October 31 – one day before Clarkson officially commences in his role.

“The past few months in particular have taken a toll and I am keen to take a break once we close out some major projects and activities,” Amarfio wrote.

“In my final few months, among other things, we’d like to progress our Arden Masterplan, secure a national draft assistance package from the AFL, extend some major sponsor partnerships and launch a future fund for the club.

“I will leave satisfied that a very solid foundation has been laid and the club is in a wonderful position to grow from an off- and on-field perspective for our men’s and women’s programs.”
