Four team MEGA-TRADE for JHF! | 01:53

COULD NORTH PART WITH ANOTHER PRIZED PICK?

The Kangaroos coughed up pick one in Monday’s historic four-club mega deal, along with last year’s number one draft pick Jason Horne-Francis.

Now there’s reports North Melbourne could be open to offers on their prized pick three – after landing both picks two and three for this year’s draft.

AFL Media says the Roos could split pick three if they can maintain a spot within the top 10 and gain another “early selection”.

But it is unclear if that early selection has to be for this year’s draft – and not 2023.

As it stands GWS (15 and 18), Sydney (14 and 17) and West Coast (8 and 12) hold two first-round picks, along with Gold Coast (5 and 7) but the latter is set to be traded to Geelong in the Jack Bowes salary dump.

Elsewhere Essendon has 4 and 22, Hawthorn has 6 and 24, Geelong could soon have 7 and 25, and Melbourne has 13 and 27.

Fox Footy’s David King was left fuming with the club’s decision to trade away pick one and Horne-Francis to get picks two and three.

It’s most likely both Will Ashcroft – widely tipped as the best player in this year’s draft – and Aaron Cadman, the tall forward likened to star Jeremy Cameron, will be off the table for the Roos come their early selections.

THE RACE TO SECURE A DEMON

Sam Weideman has conceded he wasn’t even considering a move away from Melbourne until Sunday evening, but he could be a Bomber 48 hours later.

Weideman struggled to cement his place in Melbourne’s line up in 2022, despite the long-term injury to Tom McDonald.

The Herald Sun’s Jon Ralph said he’d spoken to Essendon footy boss Josh Mahoney, who seemed confident a deal could be reached before Wednesday’s deadline.

“They’d likely get him for future third rounder,” Ralph reported on Trading Day on Monday night.

“I spoke to Josh Mahoney … and they said they’d work through that.

“They are looking at key position options.

“They still feel like they can play the likes of James Stewart.

“I think Sam Weideman has been an extraordinarily frustrating player – maybe the most frustrating in the comp to be honest. He’s got such weapons.”

Weideman spent more than an hour at Essendon’s headquarters on Monday for a tour of the facilities.

His potential addition could relieve some of the weight on Peter Wright’s shoulders in attack, plus help with the development of young Harrison Jones.

Weideman told Nine News that trade discussions “all happened pretty quickly” after a call from Essendon only came on Sunday afternoon.

“I’ve had a lot of time here and it’s been a bloody great time to be honest. I’ve had a lot of great memories here,” he said.

“A lot to play out … hopefully great opportunity and excited for what the future may hold.”

Weideman has played just 59 games since being snapped up with pick 9 in the 2015 Draft.

DOCKER WANTS TO MOVE EAST

Ruckman Lloyd Meek has requested a trade from Fremantle to Hawthorn, reports 7 Perth’s Ryan Daniels.

Meek’s interest in the Hawks has long been known and it’s uncertain whether he’ll get there.

Meek is contracted but seemingly surplus to needs now that Luke Jackson is at the Dockers to partner Sean Darcy.
