Fellow Aussie Thanasi Kokkinakis is set to square off against Swiss star Stan Wawrinka, with the latter sharing plenty of bad blood with Kyrgios.

The mercurial Canberra native couldn’t resist probing the fire ahead of the second round clash.

The feud between Kyrgios and Wawrinka dates all the way back to 2015 at the Montreal Masters.

Kyrgios won the encounter between the two stars, advancing into the third round after Wawrinka retired in the third set due to a back injury.

But it was a remark in the middle of the contest that sparked the feud between the pair.

Nick delivered a disgusting mid-game sledge to the tennis veteran about his then-girlfriend Donna Vekic.

Kyrgios was fined $10,000 for telling Wawrinka, “Kokkinakis banged your girlfriend. Sorry to tell you that, mate”.

It led to a confrontation in the player rooms after the match with the two needing to be separated by officials.

Despite the vulgar remark, it hasn’t stopped Kyrgios from continuing to take pot shots at the three-time Grand Slam winner.

In March the Swiss star was in a frosty net exchange with Holger Rune after an upset victory at Indian Wells.

The incident came after the pair had a similar moment occur during their previous meeting in November where Rune emerged victorious.

Wawrinka delivered some brutal words of advice to his younger opponent following the defeat last year.

Things reignited following their Indian Wells encounter with Rune saying at the net, after the defeat, “you’ve got nothing to say now?”.

Kyrgios jumped in on the action as he delivered his own shot at Wawrinka to add to the long-running rivalry.

“Hahahahaha yeah all good when you win … typical,” Kyrgios wrote on his Instagram stories while sharing a Tennis TV clip of the net exchange.

“@holgerrune with you my brother.”

Kokkinakis and Wawrinka will play on Wednesday night with their match scheduled to start at approximately 8:15pm (AEST).
