There was major confusion surrounding a HIA that Bulldogs forward Max King was told to undergo — but didn’t — in Friday’s clash with Manly.
Seven minutes into the second half, referee Peter Gough signalled to Max King that the Bulldogs doctor had ruled he needed to leave the field for a HIA.
King looked confused as he started running towards the sideline before turning back around.

“I don’t know if Max realised he was going to be the player sent from the field,” Fox League commentator Warren Smith said.
“Is it Max? Maybe it’s not Max… Yes it is. Max doesn’t know what is going on, maybe that is the HIA in itself.
“He’s still looking saying ‘really? I’m being asked to leave the field’.”
Fox League’s Steve Roach added: “I’ll take him off for wondering around aimlessly.”
To make the situation even more confusing, a Bulldogs trainer told King to get into the attacking line — and so he did.
“Hang on, what is going on,” Smith said.

Max thinks he’s allowed to stay on the field, the trainer thinks Max can stay on the field. Is it really Max who’s been asked to leave?
“What is happening.”
In the very next set King received the ball and took a run.
“Here he is. Here’s an on-field HIA courtesy of the Manly defence.
“So nobody left the field.”
“Did we miss something?” Roach said.
“It’s the last game of the season I guess,” Smith responded.
“Never seen anything like it… Curious in the extreme.”
